Preserving the Heart of Franklin Square
Restoring one of Bloomington’s most treasured historic green spaces for the community — and for generations to come.
“The Franklin Park Foundation is dedicated to the restoration, preservation and stewardship of the Franklin Square National Register Historic District — ensuring this cherished landmark continues to serve as a gathering place for the Bloomington/Normal community.”
What We Do
Three Pillars of Our Mission
🌳
Restore
Guided by our comprehensive Master Plan, we are working to restore the park’s historic landscape, pathways, plantings, and the iconic central monument to their original grandeur.
🏛
Preserve
Franklin Square’s rich history — Bloomington’s first public park, site of McLean County’s monument to its citizens who gave their lives in the Civil War, home of Adlai Stevenson, 23rd Vice President of the United States 1893–97, and the site of torchlight political parades and the suffragette movement — deserves to be documented, protected, and shared with the public for years to come.
🤝
Gather
A park is only as vital as the community it serves. We envision Franklin Square as a vibrant hub for events, gatherings, reflection, and connection in downtown Bloomington.
